Sambalpur

Sambalpur is a district in western Odisha. The district is surrounded by Deogarh District to the east, Bargarh and Jharsuguda districts to the west, Sundergarh District to the north, and Subarnapur and Angul districts in the south. The head quarter of the district is also named same 'Sambalpur'. The city is the connecting city between Chhattisgarh & Odisha and business hub of western Odisha. The place is popular globally for Sambalpuri Sarees. The economy of Sambalpur District is basically dependent on agriculture and secondly on forests. In the past Sambalpur has been a great centre of diamond trade. The Famous shrines of Maa Samaleswari Temple and Buddharaj Temple are worth visiting palces in the district.

Hirakud Dam, the longest dam in Asia, 4.8km long, built on Mahanadi river is the one of the best attraction of Odisha. The man made marvel 16kms from Sambalpur Town. Once can get panaromic view of the dam from the two minars named Gandhi Minar and neheru Minar. Evening time in winter is the best time to enjoy the beauty. Ganteswari Temple is few kms from Hirakud Dam is a famous picnic spot.

Debrigarh is situated on the banks of the Hirakud Reservoir and is about 35 kms from Sambalpur town. One can see bison, wild boar, peafowl, jungle fowl, sambar , spotted deer, barking deer, leopards on a good day. The place is highly recommended for nature lovers and photography enthusiastics. there are 5 cottages by forest dept with a beautiful dining area.
